The ask
The RAAF Security and Fire School (SFS) is responsible for training RAAF trainees in Airfield Security, K9 handling, and Fire Fighting operations.
RAAF instructors are extremely busy and have very little time for personal development, which limits their training, ability to improve instruction for trainees.
Over time, this had resulted in a reduction of training efficiency for RAAF students, and the ability to meet the high standards required by the RAAF.
What we did
ERS was requested to run a review to understand the gaps, and conduct personal development with the instructors to improve training standards.
From this, we developed an instructor training course that focused on theoretical teaching, best practice instruction, and ways to integrate learning with trainees.
Training was undertaken at the RAAF’s Ipswich base, with instructors from right across Australia.
What we achieved
Over two and a half years, over 200 RAAF SFS Instructors have been trained in theoretical aspects of teaching, coaching and learning behaviours, to enhance training outcomes across the RAAF.
This result has been a significant improvement in confidence for RAAF Instructors when applying training with trainees.
And 300% improvement in efficacy of courses run by the Instructors.
