The ask
A vehicle entered the Utah boom gate area at Pilbara Ports three times in one evening, with the driver behaving erratically, striking infrastructure, and posing a danger to staff and site operations.
The disoriented driver’s actions required urgent, coordinated intervention to protect road users, manage access, and liaise with emergency services.
The situation was further complicated by the need to accurately document and report every development in real time for internal records and compliance.
What we did
Maritime Security Guards at the access control point engaged the driver safely, coordinated with the Senior Guard, contacted South Hedland Police, and executed structured traffic management.
When the driver returned a third time, they carefully extracted him from the vehicle and secured the scene. The ERS security team ensured all communications were escalated appropriately.
The Senior guard remained onsite an additional two hours to complete the incident report and enter all details, ensuring a first-class incident report was submitted and the matter was fully documented.

Yampurru/ ERS security personnel responded swiftly and professionally to a complex incident involving a disoriented driver entering the Utah access control area on three separate occasions.
The team ensured site safety, managed traffic, coordinated with police, and maintained full compliance in reporting. Their efforts helped de-escalated a potentially dangerous situation and demonstrated Yampurru/ ERS’s high standards for incident management and documentation.
