The problem
Driving instructors at a government agency were having difficulty in getting students to integrate their learnings. This resulted in trainees needing additional time and effort from instructors to ensure they met the standard to pass the course.
ERS was requested to conduct a review, analysis and report how this could be rectified.
Following this, ERS was engaged to conduct Instructor Professional Development training to improve training processes.
What we did
Over a three day period ERS undertook specialised training with driving instructors across Australia, to upskill them in training techniques.
Specific focuses for improved training included challenging the status quo to better understand the issues, exploring how to create rewarding experiences for both trainees and trainers, and theories on how to get trainees to integrate learning. This included cognitive, scientific, psychological and physical ways of learning, and evaluating techniques to assess outcomes for the training.
What we achieved
The Driving instructor program was comprehensively evaluated, with areas for improvement or change highlighted.
Instructors enjoyed the training and the opportunity to refresh their skills, and took multiple new learnings on board to implement.
All the Driving instructors successfully completed the training, and took multiple aspects away from the experience. The training program was successfully improved, with an improved rate pass rate for students, making the Driver training more effective and efficient.
Results
Drivers successfully trained
National instructor representation
Improved pass rate for trainees
